When my friend Vanessa asked me to photograph her elopement in the mountains of Alberta you can imagine how excited I was in that moment. Not only do I feel extremely touched when a friend trusts me enough to ask that I document one of the most important days of their lives, but to do it among soaring mountains and snow-covered forests, was a dream come true. After a long year, or more, of planning and postponing, the day had come for me to make my way to the airport to head to Alberta. After a couple days in the west, the wedding day had come. It was a cold, cold day in November; we spent the day in hunt of the perfect photograph, chasing the light from one mountain to another and settling in beside a windy lake for the reciting of the vows. The wind was strong, making Vanessa’s dress and veil dance in the photos. For the last light of the day we found a vast ice covered lake where kids were skating to do sunset photos, there, surrounded by mountains we were shielding from the wind. If you’ve never seen a sunset in Canada’s *Rocky Mountains* it’s a sight to see, the sky paints colours that you may be unused to being in a city, and that day they were purple and pink.
Hopefully you’re inspired by this snowy mountainous elopement in Alberta.
